The Transgender Law Center partnered with IDEO to “create a set of videos highlighting the wisdom of trans leaders today. The series answers the question: What would you place in a time capsule for future generations to learn about this moment in trans history?”
I led this project for IDEO, and challenged our team to try and center trans voices over our own within the creative process. We started with more than an hour of interviews with five trans leaders, and tried to build something artful, patient, and uplifting around the beating heart of their words. Through careful craft of sound design and a mixed-media approach to animation, we ultimately felt proud to turn around three powerful videos in just 10 weeks.
The videos also center accessibility not just by including open captions and contrasting colors, but by maintaining a gentle pace, refraining from added noise, and selecting quotes that don’t depend on the cultural context or pre-existing knowledge of jargon.
This work won an award at San Francisco Design Week 2023 in the category of Social Impact.
